Why Ironman? As a keen runner who had already completed five major marathons, I was longing for a new challenge that would push me even further to my limits. This decision promised not only to test my endurance and determination, but also to prepare / qualify me for the prestigious Boston Marathon (2026) and complete my six-star major journey that I started in 2015.
Why Ironman, you may ask? The answer lies in the sheer determination that drives me to prove everyone than it be achieve without a perfect athletic physique. An Ironman consists of a gruelling 3.8km swim, followed by a 180km bike ride and a final 42km marathon run. What could be more challenging than that? My Ironman journey began at the end of 2022, shortly before I received my invitation to the Boston Marathon (2023). I was almost a non-swimmer at that point, but I wasted no time in getting a swimming instructor and going to the pool. I made slow but steady progress and can already see improvements in my swimming skills (level 2/10) As for cycling, I haven't cycled for years (level 0/10), but with this blog I want to document my experiences and track my progress towards these ambitious goals over the next four years. I invite you to join me on this incredible journey (2024-2027) as I take on the Ironman challenge and chronicle the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we'll discover what it takes to push beyond our limits and reach for the stars in the world of endurance sports.
